An Insiders' Guide to Meat and Dairy
Inside Track x Food has published an Insiders’ Guide to Meat and Dairy.
The Guide is written by a group of senior professionals working within some of the UK’s biggest food retailers, producers and manufacturers. It offers a rare, credible insider perspective on how current commercial strategies in the UK’s meat and dairy industry are undermining environmental, health, and welfare commitments, and what must change.
In their words:
“Other than for a small percentage of the population whose diets do not meet their protein and nutrient requirements, pursuing growth of lower quality and more highly processed meats will lead to poorer outcomes for health.
Continued focus on growth in meat and dairy sales will also lead to both poorer animal welfare and increased public health threats that come from more and more intensive industrial livestock production.
This will also create an inevitability about failing to meet the various commitments to greenhouse gas emission reductions, pollution and biodiversity that our industry has made.
A departure from UK farmers will hold a social and commercial cost here in the UK and impact on transparency and create supply chain risk that we do not need to create. Our commercial plans and strategies are simply not compatible with our plans for sustainable business and healthy diets.”
